Commission - Sound inspired by artists childhood trauma and nostalgia whilst growing up in the 90's and early 2000's.
As part of my third year at university, I have been commissioned by an artist to create sound and music for their exhibition. Bellow, you will find sound that was created for their artwork with short descriptions about each piece and what this represents within the world they aim to create.
01
Wendy House
This piece of art features a Wendy house that is locked with a padlock on the outside. This piece is to represent the hidden parts of a household that are locked up in a home where a child is facing trauma. The music features childlike vocalisations and synths to create an eerie feel to the exhibition space.
02
Teddy Pile
This piece of artwork is a collection of teddy bears the artist has made by cutting and dissecting teddy bears to create new ones. The music is aimed to reflect the feeling of a safe space in their bedroom when the rest of the house didn't feel safe. The music gives feelings of nostalgia and sadness yet hope that things will get better.

03
Fischer Price Tape Recorder Piece.
This work is an artist representation of a Fischer price tape recorder. This music is inspired by early years learning music and sound.
04
Oversized Sweets selection
This artwork is set to contrast the darkness within the Wendy house and how sweets are meant to make children feel all better. This piece takes direct inspiration from the care bears theme tune from the 90's, this can be heard through the instrument choices and drum beat. The sound is very uplifting.
